Working Slow to Fast
One of the most common causes for timing issues in a hitter’s pre-swing movements is that the tempo of their rhythm is TOO FAST. This fast rhythm will make it hard to float and adjust during the positive move, but it can even make the pitch appear to be traveling faster than it really is.
In order to let the eyes do their best work, slow the ball down, and allow the body to make automatic adjustments to the pitch speed, some hitters may need to work on SLOWING DOWN the tempo of their pre-swing movements.
Slow Motion Drill – Slow motion swings are a great way to learn how slow down and smooth out your rhythm to allow those automatic timing adjustments. Start with a full slow motion swing, and work your way up to a slow motion start with an explosive finish.
