COMMON SWING ISSUES
Below are many of the most common swing issues affecting hitters of all ages and skill levels.

Upper Body Issues
Symptoms
- Frequent timing issues, both early & late
- Ground balls to pull side
- Weak pop ups to opposite field
- Difficulty keeping inside pitch fair
- Difficulty hitting low pitches
- Often making contact toward handle of bat
Symptoms
- Weak ground balls to pull side
- Weak pop ups to opposite field
- Often being late
- Difficulty with high pitches &/or inside pitches
- Swing & misses, foul balls
- Often making contact toward handle of bat
Symptoms
- Inconsistent contact
- Swing & misses
- Foul balls straight back
- Difficulty with outside pitches
- Often making contact toward end of bat
- Often feeling out in front or early
Symptoms
- Difficulty hitting outside pitches
- Often feeling early or out in front
- Difficulty with offspeed pitches & slow pitching
- Lack of power
- Weak infield ground balls
- Lack of plate discipline
Symptoms
- Difficulty pulling the ball, hitting nearly everything to opposite field
- Most pulled balls are ground balls
- Weak pop ups, especially to opposite field or foul
- Difficulty hitting faster pitching
- Difficulty hitting inside pitches
- Lack of power
- Inconsistent contact
- Often making contact toward handle of bat
Midsection/Torso Issues
Symptoms
- Excessive pull side ground balls
- Lack of power
- Difficulty keeping inside pitch fair, pulling it foul
- Difficulty with outside &/or low pitches
- Difficulty with offspeed pitches & slow pitching
- Often feeling out in front or early
- Often making contact toward handle of bat &/or end of bat
Symptoms
- Excessive, choppy ground balls
- Inconsistent contact, swing & misses, foul balls down toward catcher
- Often making contact toward end of bat
- Difficulty with outside &/or low pitches
- Difficulty hitting offspeed pitches
Lower Body Issues
Symptoms
- Lack of power
- Often making contact toward end of bat
- Frequent timing issues, most often late
- Difficulty with outside pitch
- Difficulty with offspeed pitches
- Excessive groundballs to pull side
Symptoms
- Frequent timing issues, both early & late
- Difficulty with offspeed pitches
- Difficulty with very slow &/or very fast pitching
- Feeling “in-between,” meaning early on offspeed and late on fastballs
Symptoms
- Difficulty hitting the ball in the air, especially to the pull side
- Excessive ground balls
- Lack of power
- Difficulty with faster pitching
- Difficulty with outside &/or low pitches
- Foul pop-ups down opposite field line
- Often making contact toward handle of bat
