What is Rhythm in Hitting?
While in the last lesson we covered what movements your body should be making at certain points in the delivery of the pitch, that is just the beginning of having good timing. In reality, NOTHING ABOUT TIMING SHOULD BE MECHANICAL! The reaction to a pitch is so fast, we simply do not have time to think about what movements we are making and when we are making them. It must happen automatically! Luckily, this is where the feeling of RHYTHM comes in!
Vocabulary Term: Rhythm
In hitting, rhythm is the flowing, fluid feeling of the hitter’s pre-swing movements, such as their lower body load (negative move), upper body load and stride (positive move). This flowing feeling is what gives the hitter the ability to FLOAT during their positive move.
